Warrior Poet 05:35
Oh, you don’t have to hide your scars You can wear them like a soldier’s silver star That he brought home from the war For an act of uncommon valor And when it’s all been said and done When every battle’s lost and won And when the victory’s begun They will make you beautiful Cause just when you thought that you were Down for the count You turned your cheek And raised your glass With perfect nonchalance (and you) You stared them down like a warrior poet If you felt fear, you didn’t show it Through blood and tears you found The fight was coursing in your veins and you You stood your ground like a warrior poet At a loss for words but you didn’t show it They knocked you down but you will rise again You’re a warrior poet So keep your heart upon your sleeve Don’t let them steal what you believe And you’ll bring this world to its knees If you don’t give up the good fight And somehow you’ll beat the odds Breaking through glittering façades While the host of heaven all applauds As you take it up, your last stand You ran the gauntlet when you Threw the gauntlet down You toed the line And raised your voice And took the fight to them You stared them down like a warrior poet If you felt fear, you didn’t show it Through blood and tears you found The fight was coursing in your veins You stood your ground like a warrior poet At a loss for words but you didn’t show it They knocked you down but you will rise again You’re a warrior poet

This Town 05:03
We were chasing dragons With our homemade wooden swords There in your river valley At the edges of our world We were making legends Out of never ending days On your forbidden rooftops In your back alleys You don’t always know how who you were Is who you are today Or how the man that you’ve become was born In child’s play (oh) This town was big enough For the three of us to run around in Till we were tall enough to ride With fireworks on the summer nights While lightning played across the sky It wasn’t much but it’ll last me till I die We were chasing lovers When all the dragons had been tamed The mystery discovered And all the heroes had been named We were forging friendships Under never-ending skies Out on your open highways Under your watchful eyes You can never say how wounds Will grow up into dreams Or how the ground beneath your feet Is firmer than it seems (cause) This town was big enough For the three of us to run around in Till we were tall enough to ride With fireworks on the summer nights While lightning played across the sky It wasn’t much but it’ll last me till I die If nature’s brightest gold is our first green This town will always hold a special place In the treasury, of my memory (oh) This town was big enough For the three of us to run around in Till we were tall enough to ride With fireworks on the summer nights While lightning played across the sky It wasn’t much but it’ll last me till I die

Purple City 04:23
Diana, do you wanna come on out and play? I’ll show ya a little bit of homemade ecstasy I know ya, that you’re bored and you got nowhere to be We’ll go there together Diana, do you wanna come along for a ride? I’ll take ya to a place where you’ve never felt more alive It’ll wake ya to all the emptiness inside We can chase it forever Purple City, just keep staring into the lights Looking for Purple City, trying not to lose your sight Cause the night is young And the truth still hasn’t hit me That we’ll lose it when we find it, Purple City And Tommy, do you wanna head out for a run On a highway that takes us past the setting sun? The lights are sparkling on the horizon We’ll go there together And Tommy, I think I’m ready to take the leap Cause falling is better than dying in your sleep They’re calling, all the things we know we just can’t keep We’ll lose them together in … Purple City, just keep staring into the lights Looking for Purple City, trying not to lose your sight Cause the night is young And the truth still hasn’t hit me That we’ll lose it when we find it, Purple City Diana, I guess it’s time we headed home The sunrise is gonna find us both alone But your heartbeat is still aching in my bones I’ll always remember …. Purple City, just keep staring into the lights Looking for Purple City, trying not to lose your sight Cause the night is young And the truth still hasn’t hit me That we’ll lose it when we find it, Purple City

Every eye in the place Is fixed on you You can feel their gaze Following you And they’re sizing you up And they’re weighing your soul And you can’t get away No matter where you go Everybody’s watching you As you’re walking down the street (you can feel it) Shining like the sun in your faded blue jeans With your hair done up and your defenses down And the world at your feet (and you know) You’re the most magnetic thing they’ve ever seen You in your faded blue jeans You were breaking their hearts But they just didn’t know While you’re playing your part We can’t stop the show And you’re turning their heads We can’t look away And you’re knocking them dead To live another day Everybody’s watching you As you’re walking down the street (you can feel it) Shining like the sun in your faded blue jeans With your hair done up and your defenses down And the world at your feet (and you know) You’re the most magnetic thing they’ve ever seen You in your faded blue jeans You’re more beautiful than you could ever know. You’re more beautiful than you could ever know, you never know, you never know Everybody’s watching you As you’re walking down the street (you can feel it) Shining like the sun in your faded blue jeans With your hair done up and your defenses down And the world at your feet (and you know) You’re the most magnetic thing they’ve ever seen You in your faded blue jeans

They say the Inuit up north Have got a thousand words for snow And well, honey, I just don’t know if that’s true But if you need a thousand words For the stuff of life you need the most Then I guess I ought to have a thousand words for you They say that Earnest Hemmingway Could write a thousand words a day Well he must have had a most prolific muse But if you give a thousand words To the thing that most inspires you Then I guess I ought to have a thousand words for you And I remember how they say That a picture’s worth a thousand words Well honey, give or take a word or two But a thousand pictures won’t suffice To tell you just a single thing Out of the thousand words I want to say to you A thousand words could never contain The one thing I most want you to know A thousand words could never describe The beat of my heart I know its not much, I know it’s absurd And I’ll never say something you haven’t heard I know it falls short, but it’s all I’ve got A thousand words, a thousand words It’s better to be thought a fool They say than open up your mouth And prove to the whole world that its true And if brevity’s the soul of wit Then maybe all I have to do Is just hold my tongue and let the silence speak to you
6.
I didn’t know that the day that I sat down beside you I was sitting down next to my destiny And I didn’t know that the day you smiled at me the first time I was meeting a long lost piece of me And I’m so glad you didn’t let the disguise fool you I’m so glad you didn’t fall for my bluff Cause if you had we might have never learned the truth about us (that) Whatever else we had together Together we had a diamond in the rough I didn’t know the first time I felt your breath upon me How much grace was breathing over me I didn’t know the first time I held you in my arms How strong a heart was beating next to me And I’m so glad all my mistakes never deterred you I’m so glad that we held on when the going got tough Cause if we never had we might have never learned the truth about us (that) Whatever else we had together, Together we had a diamond in the rough So place me as a seal upon the hinges of your heart Like a lover’s seal engraved upon your arm Cause love is strong as death, more jealous than the grave And its flame burns with the fire of the Lord I do not know all the ups and downs that lie before us And where we’ll be when its all said and done And I do not know what we’ll see there in the rear-view mirror When we look back after its all said and done But I hope it’s true we’ll say we savored every moment I hope it’s true they’ll say we left a trail of love Cause if we do that’s how we’ll finally know the truth about us (that) Whatever else we had together, Together we had a diamond in the rough

Hey there St. Christopher, If you’re out there will you say a prayer For a world wand’ring rambler like me? Will you ask the Lord to smile down on this road I’ve walked for miles now Till I’ve seen all the green earth there is to see? I’ve seen the sun set sinking over the Serengeti I’ve watched the camels racing the sands of Dubai I’ve seen the white ghost walking the trail to Michupichu I’ve watched the wheat fields ripen under a prairie sky On trains and planes and elephants, on rickshaws on the run, They say a pilgrim’s work is never done, so... Hey there St. Christopher, If you’re out there will you say a prayer For a world wand’ring rambler like me? Will you ask the Lord to smile down on this road I’ve walked for miles now Till I’ve seen all the green earth there is to see? I’ve miles to go before I sleep And the open road is calling to me, so... Hey there St. Christopher, if you’re out there will you say a prayer For a world wand’ring rambler while he roams Will you ask the Lord to guide my feet on these open roads and these city streets Till I walk the final road that brings me home. I’ve played with polar bears way up in Churchill, Manitoba I’ve stood upon the sun-scorched slopes of Sinai I’ve kissed the lucky herring in the Antarctic waters I’ve found my winding way through the streets of Mumbai In boats and cars and wheelbarrows, on camels in the sun, They say a pilgrim’s work is never done, so .... I’ve seen the sunrise gleaming on the peak of Everest and I’ve stood upon the banks of the bridge on the river Quai I’ve heard the kookaburra singing in the old gum tree and I’ve filled my lungs with the air of a rocky mountain high In tractors, trucks and motor homes, from Ares Rock to the Yukon They say a pilgrim’s work is never done, so... I’ve miles to go before I sleep And stories to tell and people to meet And places to know and sights to see I’ve miles to go before I sleep ... so!

Filthy Lucre 04:54
Billy was a big shot on Bay Street Waiting for his ship to come in He didn’t wanna miss it when it landed so he stole His anchor from another man He said, everybody wants a little bit of sugar All its gonna cost you is some filthy lucre Filth, Filthy, Filthy Lucre Did you get some on your hands? Filthy, Filthy, Filthy Lucre Waiting for your promised land We’re all filthy Lady couldn’t seem to make ends meet Wearing down her fingers to bone She didn’t wanna beg or borrow so she sold The only thing she had of her own You could find her working nights until the streets took her With nothing in her pockets but filthy lucre Filth, Filthy, Filthy Lucre Did you get some on your hands? Filthy, Filthy, Filthy Lucre Waiting for your promised land We’re all filthy Joey was a preacher for hire Praying over innocent souls He dressed his Bible up in a bright white suit So they wouldn’t notice what he stole He could work the room Till the spirit shook ‘er With nothing in the plate but filthy lucre We’re all innocent But nobody’s clean Everybody’s money Is the same shade of green We’re all in this tub together The butcher, the baker The hooker, the preacher, and me Wally had a way to get rich quick Working on a pyramid scheme He didn’t wanna wake up when the nightmare came And shatter his American Dream He didn’t have to go out and commit murder All he had to do was make some filthy lucre Filth, Filthy, Filthy Lucre Did you get some on your hands? Filthy, Filthy, Filthy Lucre Waiting for your promised land We’re all filthy

And I had no rhythm when I first met you But you called me out onto the floor Just these clumsy feet and no dancing shoes And my heart was heading for the door But you caught my eye with your mysterious ways And you took my hand and you compelled me to stay As the music swelled I thought I heard you say That tomorrow’s gonna be my dancing day And You, you, you came into my life Like a whirling dervish Knocking over everything And dancing like a ray of light On the water’s surface I’ll follow you as you dance And I had no style and I had no poise And I kept on fumbling the beat But you didn’t mind when I kept stepping on your toes With my stumbling heart and heavy feet But you caught my eye with your mysterious ways And you took my hand and you compelled me to stay As the music swelled I thought I heard you say That tomorrow’s gonna be my dancing day And You, you, you came into my life Like a whirling dervish Knocking over everything And dancing like a ray of light On the water’s surface I’ll follow you as you dance Spin around and around and around and around Spin around and around and around x 2 And they say King David liked to dance before the Lord Well he must have known a thing or two A secret step to match his secret chord For a secret song he learned from you But you caught my eye with your mysterious ways And you took my hand and you compelled me to stay As the music swelled I thought I heard you say That tomorrow’s gonna be my dancing day And You, you, you came into my life Like a whirling dervish Knocking over everything And dancing like a ray of light On the water’s surface I’ll follow you as you dance

Ethereal 04:05
You are far stronger than you could ever know But you’re fragile, so fragile Like a melting flake of snow You are far plainer than you could ever see But you’re beautiful, you are beautiful You are beautiful to me You are ethereal, be patient With all that’s still unsolved inside You are ethereal I can see your soul Stepping tentatively into the light And like the breath in a gasp of sheer delight It’ll be gone before you know You are ethereal You are far safer than you could ever know But you’re dangerous, you are dangerous Scattering the darkness wherever you go And you’re more glorious than anyone can see But the light that shines within you now Isn’t as bright as it will be You are ethereal, be patient With all that’s still unsolved inside You are ethereal I can see your soul Stepping tentatively into the light And like the breath in a gasp of sheer delight It’ll be gone before you know You are ethereal

Hear a rattle of wings Like a whisper of death In a wilderness bleached by the sun And the stubble is dry And there’s nothing else left When the black cloud is lifted and gone When the bones are picked clean And the heart has been turned into dust You can’t unsee what you’ve seen And there’s nobody left you can trust I’ll pay you back for the years the locusts have stolen I’ll pay you back for the tears that fell in the dark When the sun has turned black and the stars from the sky are fallen I’ll pay you back, I’ll pay you back And you’re not who you were And you’re not who you are And you’re not who you’re gonna be And you can’t get it back And you can’t let it go And you can’t find a way to get free Like a stone in your heart It’ll weigh you down, regret And it’ll tear you apart All the things you can’t forget I’ll pay you back for the years the locusts have stolen I’ll pay you back for the tears that fell in the dark When the sun has turned black and the stars from the sky are fallen I’ll pay you back, I’ll pay you back

Salome’s eyes danced glittering like the stars at midnight Salome’s eyes danced ebony behind the veil Brimming like a chalice of gold full wine dark red Salome danced (she danced) and St. John lost his head Salome’s hands danced fragrant and dripping with myrrh Salome’s hands danced fluttering behind the veil Soaring like a bird of paradise with wings outspread Salome danced (she danced) and St John lost his head For a fleeting glimpse behind the seven veils St John lost his head For a lingering touch of those gilded nails St John lost his head Just to lift her to his lips like the holy grail Yeah St John lost his head Salome’s feet danced jangling with bells of silver Salome’s feet danced luminous on barefoot souls Gliding like a vapor of incense with a graceful tread Salome danced (she danced) and St John lost his head For a fleeting glimpse behind the seven veils St John lost his head For a lingering touch of those gilded nails St John lost his head Just to lift her to his lips like the holy grail Yeah St John lost his head And O I see her hiding in the shadows Somewhere in the darkness a little girl cries While mamma was waiting And the party guests were watching And Herod was laughing Ah something inside her died For a fleeting glimpse behind the seven veils St John lost his head For a lingering touch of those gilded nails St John lost his head Just to lift her to his lips like the holy grail Yeah St John lost his head Like the tragic ending of a sordid tale Yeah St. John lost his head

I’m being haunted By a scent of smoke I’m just being taunted Cause when I look around Nothing’s burning Oh, how I hunted For a scent of smoke I had what I wanted But when I woke I found Empty yearning Like a bird in a fist That flutters away Before it can be glimpsed Like a dream that escaped Before the dreamer awoke My heart has been shaped By a scent of smoke Still I’m undaunted I can take a joke And yet I’m haunted Cause when I look around Nothing’s burning Like a bird in a fist That flutters away Before it can be glimpsed Like a dream that escaped Before the dreamer awoke My heart has been shaped By a scent of smoke

O Godot, Godot, where did you go? And when you coming back? Cause a pocketful of promises Can’t make up for what I lack I keep waiting on the corner But you just don’t show And it gets so lonely sometimes Waiting for Godot O Godot, Godot, I just wanna know How long’s it gonna take I’ve been hanging around for a while now And my fingers are starting to ache I don’t know if I can keep holding on But I’m afraid to let go It just gets lonely sometimes when you’re Waiting for Godot O Godot, I know, it’s not apropos But it never hurts to ask If you could find the lost boy Behind the looking glass He went out one day to look for you But that was long ago And he’s still out there somewhere still Waiting for Godot

Sitting at the bottom of Nickajack Cave I’m waiting for someone to come along and save me Sitting at the bottom of Nickajack Cave I don’t want to leave but I know I can’t stay And the flickering light is playing tricks on my sight While I’m sitting at the bottom of the cave There’s a darkness that shines Brighter than the daylight There’s a dying place That breathes there deeper than the soul There’s a cleansing buried in the mire There’s a healing burning in the fire There’s a needing that’s sharper than desire And a thirst in the ache when the aching makes you whole Sitting at the bottom of Nickajack Cave I’m waiting for someone to come along and save me Sitting at the bottom of Nickajack Cave I don’t want to leave but I know I can’t stay And the flickering light is playing tricks on my sight While I’m sitting at the bottom of the cave And I’m stuck here again How I go there I don’t know Just a slip of the hands And suddenly I find myself groping through the shadows In the darkness where the light is deceiving On a journey where the path is misleading For vision where the blindness is believing As the past rattles round like a never-ending echo Sitting at the bottom of Nickajack Cave I’m waiting for someone to come along and save me Sitting at the bottom of Nickajack Cave I don’t want to leave but I know I can’t stay And the flickering light is playing tricks on my sight While I’m sitting at the bottom of the cave

The dealer played the tump card When the stakes were getting high And the Joker upped the ante With a twinkle in his eye The players they all folded Cause they knew just what it meant That the chance of drawing aces was 81% The chance of drawing aces The chance of drawing aces (yeah) The chance of drawing aces was 81% And I don’t wanna talk / About politics and faith And I don’t wanna walk the line / Between the church and the state Cause I can’t really say / Who’s hell bent or heaven sent But I don’t wanna be a part / Of the 81% The temperature was rising And the cistern was bone dry And the clouds were piling up In an apocalyptic sky With lightning on the wind With a cold metallic scent Cause the chance of thunderstorms was 81% The chance of thunder storms The chance of thunder storms (yeah) The chance of thunder storms was 81% And I don’t wanna talk / About politics and faith And I don’t wanna walk the line / Between the church and the state Cause I can’t really say / Who’s hell bent or heaven sent But I don’t wanna be a part / Of the 81% And if we sold our souls At least it was on the level That’s the art of a deal With the 81% And all the merchants gathered Together for the feast And someone raised a glass To the dragon and the beast And Lazarus was calling But no one would repent Cause the profits all were up by 81% The profits all were up The profits all were up (yeah) The profits all were up by 81% And I don’t wanna talk / About politics and faith And I don’t wanna walk the line / Between the church and the state Cause I can’t really say / Who’s hell bent or heaven sent But I don’t wanna be a part / Of the 81%

Like the leaves in early September Still green but touched with a promise of gold Or the red of a glowing ember Just waiting for the breath of a flame to take hold I can see her standing in the doorway Between the days behind her and the days yet to come Like the end of the prologue to the story Or the start of a brand new one But she … Oh then she stops and turns She’s a cloud in its journey cross the sun Cause I see my little girl in the shadow of the woman she’s become And then she smiles and just for an instant All of the world is brimming with light I see her shining there in the brilliance Piercing the sky like a flash in the night The past rushes by like the wind in her hair Chasing the future with a song and a prayer Spirit on fire and her heart like a lodestar Waiting to break through the dark like lightning in a jar How the leaves of late November Rattle round on the street with the coming of the cold When the summer is hard to remember Like an epic story that’s waiting to be told Oh I saw her standing in the distance Like the dawn of a spring that’s ready to begin And she rises with grace and persistence To welcome it in! But she … Oh then she stops and turns She’s a cloud in its journey cross the sun Cause I see my little girl in the shadow of the woman she’s become And then she smiles and just for an instant All of the world is brimming with light I see her shining there in the brilliance Piercing the sky like a flash in the night The past rushes by like the wind in her hair Chasing the future with a song and a prayer Spirit on fire and her heart like a lodestar Waiting to break through the dark like lightning in a jar We made it through the storm, rolling with the thunder Dancing in the summer rain till the clouds broke with rays of wonder The past rushes by like the wind in her hair Chasing the future with a song and a prayer Spirit on fire and her heart like a lodestar Waiting to break through the dark like lightning in a jar And then she smiles and just for an instant All of the world is brimming with light I see her shining there in the brilliance Piercing the sky like a flash in the night The past rushes by like the wind in her hair Chasing the future with a song and a prayer Spirit on fire and her heart like a lodestar Waiting to break through the dark like lightning in a jar

They say that Bobby met her back in High School When Katie was a girl of seventeen And he gave his heart away In Spanish class that day To the loveliest girl that he had ever seen Now Katie had been through a lot already She was young but she was older than her years But he took her hand in his And she gave him her first kiss Not knowing one day they’d look back and say That Bobby taught his kids how to swing a hammer And Katie taught them how to lead the charge And together they taught them how to hold on True when the holding’s hard And how to aim your life to please the Lord Then Bobby ran away to join the navy Whether running from or running to they’d never say He came to himself one night And he knew it wasn’t right So he ran back home to Katie’s arms to stay I like to think she met him on the platform With no ring but he got down on bended knee He asked her if she’d do And she asked if he would too And hand in hand they became a family, where Bobby taught his kids how to swing a hammer And Katie taught them how to lead the charge And together they taught them how to hold on True when the holding’s hard And how to aim your life to please the Lord They settled down to build a life together In a little yellow house beside the cove They had pains and they had joys They had three rambunctious boys And they held it all together with their love Then Bobby wandered west to make his fortune And Katie came along within the year Out in the Prairie sun Three boys turned into men Nurtured by their laughter and their tears Cause Bobby taught his kids how to swing a hammer And Katie taught them how to lead the charge And together they taught them how to hold on True when the holding’s hard And how to aim your life to please the Lord And I can only hope that I might build a home As well as Bobby built And I can only hope to find within me Katie’s strength And I can only hope that I might live as well As they taught me to Cause years run by and dreams turn in to memories Like footprints covered over by the snow But whatever the’ve yet to find And whatever gets left behind The greatest legacy is just to know... That Bobby taught his kids how to swing a hammer And Katie taught them how to lead the charge And together they taught them how to hold on True when the holding’s hard And how to aim your life to please the Lord Yeah, how to aim your life to please the Lord You know they aimed their life to please the Lord

Looking back I can see the waves breaking on the strand (of the beach) Three sets of footprints there, pressed into the sand (I can see) All those times we thought that we were walking hand in hand He was there between us There were days when the waves were high and I thought I was carrying you And those days when the storm was dark and I thought you carried me too (I saw) One set of footprints when I thought there should have been two ‘cause he carried us both You and I we’re still standing here today We didn’t have a map And yet somehow we found out way The days fly by yet the memories never fade We didn’t have a script or know what parts to play When we forgot our lines he reminded He held us, He carried and guided All that we needed his hand hath provided And we’re standing, we’re still standing here today Up ahead I can see the morning shining in your eyes When every wave is stilled and every tear is dried (and the) The horizon’s bursting with that glorious sunrise We’ll be standing with him And looking back we will see the footprints winding along the sea Sometimes there’s one set and other times there’s three (And we’ll say) Whenever he was carrying you he was also carrying me Now we’re here together and... You and I we’re still standing here today We didn’t have a map And yet somehow we found out way The days fly by yet the memories never fade We didn’t have a script or know what parts to play When we forgot our lines he reminded He held us, He carried and guided All that we needed his hand hath provided And we’re standing, we’re still standing here today Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father; There is no shadow of turning with Thee; Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not; As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be. You and I we’re still standing here today We didn’t have a map And yet somehow we found out way The days fly by yet the memories never fade We didn’t have a script or know what parts to play When we forgot our lines he reminded He held us, He carried and guided All that we needed his hand hath provided And we’re standing, we’re still standing here today

One day the sun will rise Like a banner of love unfurled That’s when we’ll realize That beauty will save the world One day the rain will fall On the dry ground like a fist uncurled That’s when the earth will call On beauty to save …. All shall be well (I believe it, that) All shall be well All manner of thing shall be well All shall be well (I swear it, that) All shall be well All manner of thing shall be well One day we’ll all hold hands All his lost boys and his hurting girls That’s when we’ll understand How beauty can save the world One day the sun will rise Like a banner of love unfurled That’s when we’ll realize That beauty will save… All shall be well (I believe it, that) All shall be well All manner of thing shall be well All shall be well (I swear it, that) All shall be well All manner of thing shall be well

Godspeed 05:48
Slow down you, move too fast You’ve got eternity stretching out before you Don’t miss this too, before this too has past Just take a breath, and take my hand, we’ll get there soon At God speed—the future unfolds so slowly At God speed—the past it lingers long At God speed—a thousand years exploding At God speed—like the quaver in a song Where a heartbeat lasts forever and forever lasts a day And we sit there lost in wonder till there’s nothing left to say And there’s no one in a hurry cause right now is all we need And we stroll into the distance till we’re moving away at God speed Slow down you miss too much You’re like a tourist snapping selfies of heaven There’s so much more than we can see or touch So hold your breath, and hold my hand, we’ll get there soon At God speed—the future unfolds slowly At God speed—the past it lingers long At God speed—a thousand years explode At God speed—like the quaver in a song Where a heartbeat lasts forever and forever lasts a day And we sit there lost in wonder till there’s nothing left to say And there’s no one in a hurry cause right now is all we need And we stroll into the distance till we’re finally on our way, moving a God speed
